One of our “Senior” pilots, is delighted to be providing Gliding Scholarships for any youth who would like to learn to fly or progress their flight training. Our “Senior pilot”  has fond memories of pilot training in their twenties, and also the life skills and self discipline it instilled. It has also opened up a world-wide fellowship of other pilots and airfields which in later life has been captivated in travel and living with other cultures. They wish to give something back to young pilots who also have the wish to follow their dreams of flight.

These Scholarships are open to all under 26. The flight training will be undertaken at the Greytown Soaring Centre, Papawai, Wairarapa NZ between 1 Dec 2019 and 31 Mar 2020.

Woman who have applied for the “Woman’s Dream to fly” scholarships may also apply again here so they have a “double bonus” chance.

The Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of a few brief paragraphs (75 – 150 words) outlining why you think you should be awarded a scholarship and how it would help you achieve your flying ambitions. The most compelling reasons will determine the awards.

There are two categories of Scholarship

  1. The top Scholarship of $1000 is open to those who have already commenced power or glider training. The scholarship funds will go towards flying and admin fees based on the Wellington Gliding Clubs standard Youth rates. View the Wellington Gliding Clubs schedule of fees.
  2. There are also two additional Scholarships of $200  covering a One Day Introduction to Gliding Course. Applications are to be made online below. They are now open and close 25th November.

Successful applicants will be advised within 1 week of the closing date.
